Bring on the Party Lights of Health

Share

I am recovering. Though the recovery is ever so slow, and I have spent more than a few moments considering my own mortality this past week. Never doubt than pneumonia is one scary thing to have.

My worst moments came, as they always tend to do when I’m sick, in the middle of the night. For a few nights, I despaired. A few nights after that, I was angry. And for the past two nights, after the coughing calmed a little, but not enough for me to sleep, I looked at pictures on my phone.

I thank God for the sweet faces of my kids, Lazy Boy Recliners – without which I wouldn’t have been able to upright enough to sleep – and Steve Jobs for creating an implement to keep me company in the night. These are the things that have carried me through the dark nights.

I’m so glad that I can finally feel that these dark nights are finally drawing to a close, and the bright party lights of health are looming near.

Bring on the party.

  1. Glad you’re feeling better! It’s been a horrible year for illnesses, everyone has had everything and it’s all going around.

Also, your kids are really cute.

Thanks. I have had SO MANY people tell me that they have had pneumonia this year. What a terrifically terrible sickness it is. I hope I’ve put in my time never for it to return again.

Did I ever tell you that when Mark had pneumonia I was reading a book and here is how that book ended: the heroine DIED of PNEUMONIA. Bad timing on my part. Sheesh. I finished the book and then lay awake for hours. Glad you are feeling better. Also, at this time, I told my elderly neighbour that Mark had pneumonia and she said “You should be happy! Kids used to DIE ALL THE TIME from pneumonia, when I was a child.” So…I guess she meant that to be encouraging?

That is not the best book to read while your kid is sick for sure. K had pneumonia and had to be hospitalized when he was 3. I knew it was bad and scary, but now that I’ve actually had it myself I realize HOW bad and scary it is. If I could go back in time, I’d be a blubbering mess on behalf of my poor little kid.

Glad you’re on the road to recovery. I had Bronchitis a few years ago which pales in comparison to Pneumonia. It can take awhile (months) to truly feel like yourself again. Small word of advice, when you are feeling like you have some energy, DON’T over do it! Pace yourself :)

Yay for kids and how they can put smiles on our faces :)

    • Marilyn says:

I’ve been told to expect my recovery to be at least a month. I will take your advice about not overdoing it for sure. Thanks!

glad to hear you are on the mend. little smiling face and warm toes in the middle of the night do wonders for the spirit as well.

I had pneumonia when I was around ten and then a couple of years ago and both times I felt like I was going to die. I know that feeling that you’re never going to have five minutes uninterrupted by lung-rending coughing again, and the unending weariness. I so hope you feel better soon.

Pneumonia is a SOB. I knew it was a bad thing to have, but now I understand why people die of it. I’ve never thought about death as much as I have this past week. It was quite frightening to be honest. I’m glad things are finally getting better.
