Now that the holiday madness is over, we can finally relax back into our regular routines. In the house of A Lot of Loves that means school will start up for the kids again tomorrow and we will be back to rushing around frantically looking for lost socks while I try to shove some breakfast at the kids and pack lunches.
I need the quickest of quick breakfasts, which means that Kellogg’s is often a player at our breakfast table. If you’re familiar with my family’s time management issues in the morning, you know that we are never ready for school on time, and we are always rushed. Cereal is almost always what’s for breakfast because it’s the fastest meal around, while still being part of a balanced meal.
Of course, Rice Krispies are also fantastic as a snack in the form of Rice Krispie Treats and in Trish Magwood’s Sweet Marie Bars. I made a batch of Sweet Marie Bars today using the recipe in award-winning cookbook author Trish Magwood’s new book, In My Mother’s Kitchen, and I can honestly say that those bars will now be added to our dessert rotation. Everyone in my family devoured them. You can find the recipe for Sweet Marie Bars in In My Mother’s Kitchen (which I reviewed just today).
Although I’m familiar with Rice Krispies served straight-up in a bowl with milk, or as part of a dessert, I’ve never really thought of added them into my main course. I was a bit surprised to find the number of recipes featuring Rice Krispies over at ricekrispies.ca. I will definitely be trying out the Oriental Chicken Tenders recipe using Rise Krispies to give the chicken a crunchy coating (yum).
One (1) lucky reader will win four big boxes of Kellogg’s Rice Krispies as well as a copy of the gorgeous cookbook, In My Mother’s Kitchen, by Trish Magwood. This giveaway is open to anyone with a Canadian shipping address.
