McDonald’s Real Fruit Smoothie Experience

Share

mcdonalds-smoothieThe first time I had a McDonald’s McCafe Real Fruit Smoothie it was handed to me as a sample from the McDonald’s booth at the San Diego BlogHer convention in August 2011. I. Loved. It. Seriously. It was the only sample that I loved so much, I actually went out of my way each day to get one. Mango Pineapple flavour, if you please.

They are simply delicious. When Collective Bias asked me if I was interested in participating in a social shopper opportunity for them with the purpose of documenting my experience of purchasing a smoothie from my local McDonald’s, I was in. Why not? Those smoothies are too yum to pass up.

mcdonalds-free-wifiI had another reason for wanting to visit McDonald’s on that particular Monday, I had an hour to kill while I waited for my son to get out of his swimming lessons (they don’t let parents in the pool area at his pool). McDonald’s has free Wi-Fi, and a little quiet time with a snack and my laptop sounded perfect to me.

mcdonalds-workingI hit the McDonald’s a little past 3:30pm which meant it was filled to the brim with high school kids and harried McDonald’s staffers. The tables in the restaurant were, sadly, a disaster. I wasn’t able to find a clean one, but I did find one that wasn’t too bad. Within 10 minutes, the high school swarm was fed and out the doors and I was left to sit in the restaurant alone. Ahhh. Just me and my drink.

me-mcdonaldsIf you haven’t tried one of the McDonald’s Fruit Smoothies, I suggest you give them a go. They really are scrumptious. The McDonald’s that I was in had a choice of my preferred Mango Pineapple or Strawberry Banana. They’re made with fruit puree and yogurt and are so good. They’re so good, in fact, that I think I should point out that though they are made with fruit and yogurt, they’re still not what I would call health food. There was 52g of sugar in my small smoothie. That is a lot. And that means the delicious McDonald’s Fruit Smoothie falls squarely into the treat category.

mcdonaldsStill, everyone needs a treat once in awhile, and you can’t lose with a McDonald’s Real Fruit Smoothie. They hit the spot.

I have drooled over the smoothies every time I see the commercials – but 52 grams of sugar? Eeeep! Not so sure I can do it!
