A New Point of View

tigerMy five-year-old son, K, could care less about my camera. A huge part of his life involves co-starring in my photo shoots, but at no point has he ever taken an interest in taking his own pictures. I find this lack of interest curious, because when I was not much older than him, I had my own camera and my mom was always taking my used rolls of film to the store to be developed.

I still have some of my first photos, and while they are filled with dozens upon dozens of shots of stuffed animals propped up on various items such as my bed and or a chair, I still like to look at them. It’s such an interesting glimpse into what I thought was important at that time.

My three-year-old daughter, on the other hand, is much more interested in all of the same technological gadgets that her mama is interested in. She often asks me how something works, or if she can try it, so when she asked if she could borrow my phone to take some pictures, I figured I could trust her to be (semi) careful with it.  footHer first photo shoot consisted of 60 pictures (compared to my first rolls of film that held only 12 pictures!) and most of them were variations on her fingers or super close-ups of her coat.

But not all.

I must admit that I was impressed that she managed to get some pretty decent images.

shadowShe’s an artist! A savant! A mini-me. Excuse the gushing.

kSome of her models were happier than others to participate that day.

AlotoflovesWhen I uploaded the images that were taken at the park that day, I laughed when I noticed the one shot that was shot by me. It wasn’t the three-year-old that took this, it was the thirty-seven-year-old.

tigerYes, it seems that 30 years may have passed, but I’m still the one taking pictures of stuffies out and about on their little adventures. Guess I’m a kid at heart.

When Mark developed an interest in the camera, he took hundreds of pictures: of the inside of the laundry basket, of the TV, of pictures on our walls….

  2. My kids don’t like to be in photos but love to take them. My daughter actually prefers to record herself singing and then laughs hysterically as she listens to herself. It’s so cute. Thanks for sharing your daughter’s shots :)
